Before enrolling, you will complete a pre-training interview and a language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) assessment. This helps determine course suitability and any additional support you may need.

How the Course will be Delivered
Work Placement Requirements (Minimum 160 Hours)
This childcare course includes valuable, real-world practical experience within the Children’s Services sector. All CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care students are required to complete a minimum of 160 hours of placement in a regulated childcare setting.
Our trainers will support you in securing a suitable placement close to home and will continue to guide and encourage you throughout this hands-on component. We will also visit your placement site to assess your skills in practice and provide any additional mentoring if needed.
While practical placement is typically unpaid, it often leads to employment opportunities within the centre—giving you the chance to transition into a paid role as you build your skills. Most of our early childhood students secured employment during their course, largely due to their placement experience.
If you’re already working in a childcare setting, you may be able to complete your placement hours in your current workplace (must be an ACECQA approved 0 to 6 year) while continuing to earn an income.
Workplace Access Requirements
Learners must have access to a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia to complete the required workplace hours and demonstrating skills performance. To meet this requirement, learners must either:
- provide a letter confirming access to an approved education and care service for children aged 0 to 6 years; or
- nominate a preferred approved service at enrolment, where they may complete at least 160 hours of workplace experience in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia.
Additional Entry and Workplace Requirements
To support workplace access and safe participation, learners may need to provide the following evidence:
- a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) if they are 18 years of age or older.
- evidence of required vaccinations, where requested by the workplace provider.
- a police check, where required by the workplace provider.
- access to the internet through a personal or workplace computer; and
- any other evidence required by the nominated workplace provider.
Learners may also receive credit transfer where they hold valid and current evidence for:
- HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting from a nationally recognised training provider; and
- CHCPRT025 Identify and report children and young people at risk.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Credit Transfer & USI
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
What is RPL? Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment method that allows individuals to demonstrate their existing skills and knowledge by providing evidence from past experiences. These experiences may include paid or volunteer work, life experience, professional development, or formal study.
Can I apply for RPL? RPL is ideal for individuals who have substantial experience in an education and care setting or a similar environment. Emerge Training and Consulting generally recommends at least five years of experience across a range of roles for those seeking RPL for a full qualification. However, eligibility depends on individual circumstances, so anyone interested is encouraged to contact Emerge Training and Consulting to discuss their situation.
What evidence is required?
Competency Conversation: A Training and Development Officer (TDO) from Emerge Training and Consulting will discuss your previous experience to evaluate your skills and knowledge.
Practical Assessment: Candidates must demonstrate practical skills within a regulated education and care service in Australia.
Portfolio: A collection of evidence such as references, previous qualifications, professional development records, photos, and work samples.
Credit Transfer
Credit Transfer differs from RPL in that it applies when a student has already completed a unit as part of a previous qualification. To receive Credit Transfer, you must provide proof of completion, such as a USI transcript or a certified Statement of Attainment. Once verified, the credit is granted.
Jane's RPL & Credit Transfer Case Study
Jane has worked as an education support worker in a primary school for six years. She completed a Certificate IV in Education Support two years ago, which included a relevant unit on supporting children at risk. More recently, she has volunteered in an outside school hours care program and decided to pursue a Diploma of School Age Education and Care. After enrolling and speaking with a Training and Development Officer, Jane develops an assessment plan. She receives Credit Transfer for the unit she has already completed and is eligible for RPL in several areas based on her experience. The remaining units are completed through standard training and assessment, with support from her Training and Development Officer.
Unique Student Identifier (USI)
It’s a regulatory requirement that if you’re studying nationally recognised training in Australia from 1 January 2015, you will be required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Your USI links to an online account that contains all your training records and results (transcript) that you have completed from 1 January 2015 onwards.

Identification and Previous Qualifications
Upon enrolling, you must provide a copy of valid photo identification (driver’s licence, passport, or proof of age card). Your Training and Development Officer will verify original documents. Under Standards for RTOs 2015, we verify any VET qualifications submitted for Credit Transfer or RPL via the USI Portal at www.usi.gov.au.
